About The Show Ring

The Show Ring was started several years ago as Smokey's and has gone through several reincarnations to finally end up as you see it now.

The main part of The Show Ring is its very active forum, which has members ranging from riding club competitors to HOYS judges - and just about everything in between. Our members are very supportive and encourage everyone at all levels to do the best they can with their horses and ponies.

The website contributions have come from our members as we have many who specialise in specific areas of the showing world.

We have several meet ups each year - usually a Christmas dinner (one in the south, one in the midlands and one in the north of the country) as well as shows. At several shows this year there were Show Ring Corners where members stabled together and supported each other (particularly in the evening performances!) Through the website, many lifelong friendships have been created, horses have been sold, grooms have been borrowed and riders have shown other member's horses on their behalf. Several members joined together to have a go at sidesaddle, some of whom are proving to be very adept at this art!

Our yearly "piece de resistance" is Show Ring Camp. This is a residential showing camp, and has been running yearly since 2005. With instructors including David Tatlow, Jo Bates, Marjorie Ramsay, Allister Hood, David Bartram, John Conifey and many more, we have had some great sessions. For more information about this event, please see the link on the left of this page.

If you would like to become a member of The Show Ring forums, please click on the link to the left of the page. You will see that there is a one off charge of £10 (or two lots of £5). This money is donated to charity and over the past 3 years we have donated over £5000 to a variety of charities including Air Ambulance, Grass Sickness, Breast Cancer and also to Caroline Wareing - one of our members who had an accident at a show this year (2009) and is sadly now unable to walk.

Please look through our site, and if you have any comments, please let us know!
